What We Do

Aims

The aims of the Centre are to:

  • Conduct and facilitate high quality empirical and policy-focused research into OHS regulation, consistent with the National OHS Strategy 2002-2012;

  • Facilitate and promote groups of collaborating researchers to conduct empirical and policy-focused research into OHS regulation in each of the States and Territories;

  • Facilitate the integration of research into OHS regulation with research findings in other areas of regulation;

  • Produce regular reports on national and international developments in OHS regulation; and

  • Develop the research skills of young OHS researchers

Activities

In order to achieve these aims, the Centre undertakes the following activities:

Research Programs

The Centre:

  • Monitors, documents and analyses Australian and international developments in OHS regulation and research in OHS, as well as related areas of regulation;

  • Develops, produces and disseminates an electronic newsletter, Regulation at Work;

  • Seeks research funding and conducts research projects which involve Centre staff, graduate research students and collaborating researchers from other research centres;

  • Seeks to attract post-graduate students (PhD and Masters) to conduct research into OHS regulation;

  • Produces a web-based series of working papers reporting on research into OHS regulation; and

  • Maintains a website for working papers, information about OHS regulation, links to other regulation websites and profiles of OHS regulation researchers.

An OHS Regulatory Research Consortium

The Centre:

  • Encourages and supports an OHS Regulatory Research Consortium, comprising collaborating researchers and research centres in each of the Australian States and Territories;

  • Organises an annual colloquium to bring together OHS regulatory researchers and OHS regulators.

Collaboration with other Research Centres

The Centre collaborates in research programs with other Australian and international research centres (for example, other RegNet Centres, the Melbourne University Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law, The Griffith Socio-legal Research Centre, and the London School of Economics’ Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Regulation).
