What We Do
Aims
The aims of the Centre are to:
-
Conduct and facilitate high quality empirical and policy-focused
research into OHS regulation, consistent with the National OHS Strategy 2002-2012;
-
Facilitate and promote groups of collaborating researchers to conduct
empirical and policy-focused research into OHS regulation in each
of the States and Territories;
-
Facilitate the integration of research into OHS regulation with research
findings in other areas of regulation;
-
Produce regular reports on national and international developments
in OHS regulation; and
-
Develop the research skills of young OHS researchers
Activities
In order to achieve these aims, the Centre undertakes the following activities:
Research Programs
The Centre:
-
Monitors, documents and analyses Australian and international developments
in OHS regulation and research in OHS, as well as related areas of
regulation;
-
Develops, produces and disseminates an electronic newsletter, Regulation at Work;
-
Seeks research funding and conducts research projects which involve Centre staff, graduate research students and collaborating researchers from other research centres;

Seeks to attract post-graduate students (PhD and Masters) to conduct
research into OHS regulation;
-
Produces a web-based series of working papers reporting on research
into OHS regulation; and
- Maintains a website for working papers, information about OHS regulation, links to other regulation websites and profiles of OHS regulation researchers.
An OHS Regulatory Research Consortium
The Centre:
-
Encourages and supports an OHS
Regulatory Research Consortium, comprising collaborating researchers and research
centres in each of the Australian States and Territories;
-
Organises an annual colloquium to
bring together OHS regulatory researchers and OHS regulators.
Collaboration with other Research Centres
The Centre collaborates in research programs with other Australian and
international research centres (for example, other RegNet Centres, the
Melbourne University Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law, The
Griffith Socio-legal Research Centre, and the London School of Economics’
Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Regulation). |
